When attempting to sync iPod (any model) with iTunes on Windows XP, you may run into one of the following unfriendly error messages:

"The disk could not be read from or written to,"

"The required disk could not be found"

"The iPod "Customer's iPod" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-50)"

"The iPod "Customer's iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1418)"

Reason

90% of the Windows machines I have seen that wont boot was the direct result of some missing file or damaged portion of the Master Boot Record. Fortunately there are multiple boot disks and methods available to get you back in business. I would like to examine the multiple ways available out there to fix problems like this and compile, with the help of the readers, a definitive list of solutions for these problems.
